Taking a break from the barn today…

…Only to watch some of the yearlings (SHEEP THAT WILL BE COMING HOME WITH ME IN 6 DAYS!!!) being sheared at Juniper Moon Farm. Yes! I said watch the shearing! You can too! Just go to the Juniper Moon website and be sure you are on Lambcam 2… They will start between 5 and 6 PM EST (4 and 5 pm CST)… and finish who knows when… Don’t fret… You can still catch it! Shearing changed to Tuesday morning!

In other news… I got a new do! It is my shepherds hairdo! Besides it being time for a change, I decided that getting my hair bleached and highlighted every 5 weeks wasn’t the most responsible thing for ME to do with my money. So, Celso, at Matthew Tully Hairdressers in Dallas, and I decided on a color that was closer to my natural color. It turned out a little darker than I had been thinking but I think I love it! And Celso (a major hottie) said in his Puerto Rican accent, “I think this will look good because you have beautiful eyes.” I think I said, “You do too…”

Anyway, shearing will start any minute! Watch for my babies!

Rain rain go… ahead and get it over with!

So we can get back to work! It has been another dreary day in Texas. Clouds covering the sun. Mist falling ALL DAY LONG! I usually don’t mind days like this but I still have so much work to do. Oh well, I also have 40 batts to card before the 8th so I better get on that.

Only 11 days till I get to meet my sheep!!! Finally seems like it is getting close. I am sure it will fly by now. :-)

Hugs!

You know you’re a farmer when…

… you don’t mind a farmer’s tan!
I'm so proud!

Yesterday, I started the day enjoying the sun rise over the field of bluebonnets…
Texas state flower, the Bluebonnet

… and watching the clouds through the trees that will provide shade for my sheep.

Now enough with the sissy stuff! It was time to get Farm Tough!

My helper, Billy H. and I made huge progress yesterday. We totally finished the fence for the smallest pen! (Which isn’t that small.) This is one of three fenced in areas. There is an identical fenced area to the right of the barn and a fence around the big pasture area. These just need a little repair.

Tomorrow is Billy H.’s birthday! Happy birthday Billy!!! So, we will continue work on Tuesday… finishing up on the wooden gates and making screens for the barn doors (so I can leave the top door open to get some air flow at night). Then Wednesday, Thursday and Friday we will be cleaning out the stalls and installing fans. Saturday I will be headed back up to Roach Feed and Seed to get the hay, straw, feed and other miscellaneous items to stock the barn! And, Sunday I will probably just sit out in my bag-o-chair and read about sheep. :-)

So, the countdown continues! 9 days till I find out the names of my sheep!!! 13 days till I meet them in Oklahoma!!! And 14 days till they come home with me!!!

And speaking of Oklahoma… The Straw’s (RJ’s family) have decided to host a “Goat and Sheep Meet and Greet” at their place Saturday night! Isn’t that fun? So, if you are in the area or want to be… go to this page and RSVP.

All right ladies and gents! It is time for me to hit the hay. Gonna start waking up at 5AM in the morning so I can get used to the change before the sheep get here.

Have a happy week!
Leslie @ Over the Moon Farm

ps. I got some sunscreen today. :-)

I am…

Over the Moon y’all! Get it?

Because I am Over the Moon about winning this contest. And Over the Moon about my new life! And most of all, Over the Moon in love with all of you wonderful people! Plus, I thought it was a nice tribute to the woman who started it all at Juniper Moon Farm!

So, the official word is that Susie will be picking 5 or 6 of her healthiest sheep to come live with me. She will make the decision on April 5th after shearing. (I will let you know their names when I do!!!) Oh, and plan to get them home… I don’t think I have even posted about it… Mr. Precious himself, RJ Straw (a fantastic blogger), the winner of the Young Shepherd Award, and his family are generously offering to bring my babies back to NE Oklahoma with them! So, officially I will be meeting my sheep the afternoon of April 9th and taking them home April 10th!!!!!!!!!!!! Now can you see why I am Over the Moon???

Anyway, more work on the fence tonight and Saturday just in time for the rain. And next week to do the final touches on the barn…

Big hugs to EVERYONE!
Leslie @ Over the Moon Farm

I need a sugar daddy!

Boy, after four trips to Tractor Supply, the feed store and Home Depot I realize I NEED A SUGAR DADDY!

No really, I had figured out a basic (monthly) figure I was planning on… but the initial costs are more than expected. I will be fine. :-) Just know if you want to become a shepherd, you need to know all the costs. Such as food and water troughs/feeders, mineral licks, buckets, rakes, first aid and nutrition supplies. Even things like fans and light bulbs. I did get a good deal on some fans for the stalls. And I was able to take back some extra supplies to Home Depot. But, I am nowhere near done! I do smile every time I make a purchase though. It lets me know I am one step closer to having my sheep home.

Speaking of supplies… My friend, Billy H. and I have been using some of those supplies and working on the fence. It covers a smaller area around the barn. Here is a picture of me and the post hole digger.

Also, I have found a name for my little fiber farm and engraved it in stone! Here is a hint…
Can you guess? I even have a cute logo in mind! <3

Sweet dreams friends!

Make a wish.

When walking out of my office today I saw this dandelion…
I stopped and looked at it… but, as soon as I went to pick it I changed my mind. I realized that all my wishes have come true. :-P

ps. Does anyone know how this little tradition got started?

I think I love you…

Well, yesterday my day started at the Tractor Supply. And guess where it ended??? I had never been to one of these stores before. It was like a hardware store, feed store, and clothing store ALL in ONE!

You might not know that my first job was at a hardware store. Arrington Hardware in Garland, Texas. It was a neat little hardware store. We had a big ol’ barrel of roasted peanuts (in the shell) at the front door. Customers were invited to grab a handful and do some shopping… Or dirty joke tellin… Which there was a LOT of…

Another place I spent a lot of time during high school was the feed store. In between trips to Tractor Supply today, Dad and I met at Roach Feed and Seed. (Which happens to be less than a mile from my office!) Memories light the corners of my mind… I LOVE the smell of the hay barn! We walked around and picked up a few small things (which added up!) and took a break for lunch.

Now, anybody who knows me knows I love clothes and especially shoes! I could go to Nordstrom and find maybe one or two pairs I DON’T LIKE. Who knew this love of shoes would carry over to mud boots? I found at least three pair I wanted to take home. :-P

All this to say, I love Tractor Supply! And, Roach Feed and Seed… don’t worry… I will always love you!

Leslie

Oh, and I think I have come up with a name for my fiber farm! Will let you know when I am sure. :-)

Happy birthday to me!

So, last week on 3-11-11 I turned the big 33! I can tell you that last year I didn’t think I would enjoy this day… But, so many things have changed since then. Anyway, this isn’t going to be another sappy blog so I will stop right there. Haha

I will tell you that I am totally stoked that I will be a mother by the time I am 35! No, I am not looking into AI! Not for me anyway… I will be getting some of last year’s lambs from Susie at Juniper Moon Farm. She recommends waiting a full year before breeding (so that I will experience every season with the sheep). Then the breeding season is in October. So, by Spring of 2013 I will be a mother! <3 No gifts please. Haha

Back to this year… I had a totally fabulous birthday! It started with this PERFECT Cupcake Cake at the office (thanks Hayley!).

Next was lunch at the Black Eyed Pea with my two favorite men! Grandpa and Dad. It was so fun! Grandpa wanted to talk about the sheep. <3

I went home to try and take a birthday nap (since I still wasn't sleeping from all the excitement) and guess who called??? Susie Gibbs!!! We talked about MY NEW SHEEP! And Sweet Susie wished me a happy birthday. After I got off the phone, I slept like a baby.

Then dinner at the Silver Fox (love it!) with the fam. This includes Mom, Dad, Sister Abby, Favorite Bro-in-law Kevin, and Precious Little Leah. It started off with a bang when Leah ran to the table with my present singing happy birthday. Couldn't have been cuter!
Leslie and Leah

Then delicious dinner and presents! I got some of my favorite lotion (the brand Presbyterian Hospital uses) and a beautiful little box from Sister Abby and fam. Mom and Dad got me a fence post driver and a gift certificate to Tractor Supply!

Fence Post Driver

And then when I came into work on Monday, Cousin Hayley had put a little something on my desk! It was this absolutely darling necklace!

Darling necklace from Cousin Hayley

Also that day as I was cruising my favorite blogs and look what I found! This sweet post from Cindy at Jacob’s Reward Farm. I just love my friends! <3

So the verdict is in… IT WAS THE BEST BIRTHDAY EVER!!!

Hope you all have a great day!
Thanks!
Leslie (had a little lamb)

ps. if you didn't notice I changed blog/website again… I moved the important posts over but lost all your comments. :-( Gonna try and make this one work for me though. :-)
